Dubai Refreshments Company, the PepsiCo bottler and distributor in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, posted operating profit of AED28 million for 2004, a 12% increase on the year before. The company, which is planning a stock market listing, also reported a 27% increase in sales volume, but did not disclose turnover or net profit. “Dubai Refreshments has held the majority market share in the CSD category for three years now, but growth in sales volume has not come at the expense of everything else,” said Alan Salem, general manager of DRC. “The last three years have seen consistent growth, profit margins and turnover, and have put DRC in an extremely strong position to sustain this growth in the future.” Since 2003, DRC has introduced Aquafina, Pepsi’s bottled water brand, into the UAE and has picked up the rights for 7Up, which it claims to have taken to second place in Dubai and the Northern Emirates’ CSD market. Pepsi is widely accepted to be the leading CSD brand in the UAE. Over the last three years, DRC’s sales volume has increased from 8 million cases a year to 18 million.
