Empa has been at this week’s Gitex Saudi Arabia to lend support to its resellers, as the regional distributor is busy emphasising its development of in-country operations in the Kingdom. Empa, which represents a strong set of vendors including Intel, Kinsgton, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Biostar, LiteOn and BTC among others, is also promoting its next day delivery capabilities. “We have points of presence in Riyadh and Jeddah and have resellers in all the major cities across Saudi Arabia. Empa is now in a position to offer next day delivery to resellers who also benefit from our excellent stock availability,” explains Mahmood Zeidan, territory sales manager for Empa Saudi Arabia. Empa currently has over 400 resellers purchasing regularly in Saudi Arabia with a customer base covering all sectors of the channel community including retailers, dealers and hign end corporate resellers. “We are pushing hard to serve local customers well,” says Zeidan. “Distributors trying to serve Saudi resellers out of Jebel Ali struggle to provide such a high quality of service when it comes to RMA support and receivables. Availability is also another issue to consider. Empa can supply the product to local resellers in the quantities that they require for specific projects.” Empa has also achieved considerable success with the development of its own brand Spika products in the Kingdom. Spika storage products are now a common sight in retail outlets across the country. In 2005, Empa plans to expand its product portfolio even further. On a regional level, Empa has been securing distribution rights for finished goods vendors and it is hopeful that it can sign similar deals for Saudi. Empa already runs road shows for the vendors it represents in cities across the country and remains confident resellers will continue to appreciate the extra value that its local presence and value-adding services offer the channel community. “The Saudi Arabian market is positioned well for sustained growth,” says Zeidan. “It is a promising time for the information technology business and Empa is continually striving to offer our customers more and more local support and product availability,” he adds. The development of in-country distributors is making it harder for resellers to justify buying grey product entering the country. Although these products may offer a slightly cheaper up-front purchase price, authorised in-country distributors now offer facilities and support that offers even greater long-term value to resellers. “Grey product is available in every country in the world,” says Zeidan. “Empa is focused on being a distributor wherever it operates. This means giving customers a quality of support and service that makes the offering more competitive than buying grey.”
