Holool has introduced its bilingual version of the Linux operating system, HOST, to the Saudi Arabian market today. The IT solutions provider, which was established in Riyadh in 2000, believes its version of the open source OS will be a winner due to its user friendly GUI and features. “HOST allows end user organisations to reduce IT costs by enabling them to do more with less,” says Holool's Mohammad Al-Harbi. “We hope to receive a good response [for HOST] today and for the rest of the show as the Saudi Arabian IT market is a growing one and this is a great chance for us to promote our products,” he adds. In addition to demonstrating HOST, Holool is talking visitors to its stand through its Linux support services, which end users can avail themselves of in either the implementation phase of a project or on an ongoing basis. “Holool’s services offering brings with it expertise and methodologies to handle the diverse business function requirements of an enterprise,” Al-Harbi says. Holool is not alone in promoting Linux at this year’s Gitex Saudi Arabia. Two other firms keen to convince local users that the open source operating system can reduce costs and improve reliability are Sun Microsystems and Opennet. While the former is showcasing its Linux solutions with its partners, Opennet is using the show to demonstrate how its range of consulting and professional services can assist businesses with the assessment, design, and implementation of Linux solutions. “One of our prime objectives in the immediate future is to ensure that the enterprise end user is educated on the advantages of opting for Linux,” says Tewfik Zitouni, managing director at Opennet MEA. Opennet Middle East & Africa was established in late 2003 in Dubai Internet City. It works closely with companies through its channel partner network and has developed a highly successful Red Hat Linux training and education centre. At Gitex Saudi Arabia today the spotlight is firmly on promoting the value of open source technology to enterprises concerned with flexible, open IT infrastructures. According to Zitouni, today’s show provides the perfect opportunity for Opennet to exhibit its range of enterprise Linux operating system products, which are backed by the Red Hat Network, management platforms, and comprehensive services. Visitors will be able to learn about the variety of consulting and engineering services on offer, from complete Linux migration to software development, all of which are aimed at making Middle East enterprise open source deployments successful.
