Saffir’s Marina Hotel in Kuwait has opted for Ortronics connectivity in a structured cabling implementation that provides infrastructure support for hotel management systems, room service facilities like interactive TV and internet service to every room. Ortronics local partner, Bader Al Mulla & Bros (BMB), recently completed the installation of an Ortronics Structured Cabling system including CAT6 copper and OM3 fibre optic systems. “The client was looking for a partner who could supply and install a reliable network to provide the necessary bandwidth for these advanced applications and wanted assurance that the infrastructure would also support future applications,” says Jismoan Jacob, territory manager for Ortronics regional distributor Online. BMB installed a total of seven-42U cabinets in different locations to house the active networking equipment. These are linked to a central main cabinet using a fibre optic backbone. The horizontal cabling spreads across 2400 data points and is based on the Ortronics Clarity6 copper solution. The OM3 multimode fibre constituting the backbone offers bandwidth suitable for 10Gbytes/s applications. A total of 150,000 metres of copper horizontal distribution and 19200 fibre metres have been deployed in the system. "The main challenge for us and Online Distribution was to complete an end to end structured cabling system on-site within tight time schedules while maintaining high quality installation and performance," says Ausaf Usmani, Divisional Manager of BMB. “We were awarded the project after a series of presentations followed by inspections of installed reference sites by the Consulting engineers to evaluate the proposed product and the installation practices of the installers,” he adds.
