Bahrain’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued an emergency order to all licensees holding an International Facilities Licence (IFL) to immediately block a call back number in Singapore. The order was issued to all IFL licensees namely: Batelco, North Star Communications, MTC Vodafone Bahrain and Mena Broadband Services. This emergency order was issued after the TRA was made aware of the illegal service by the company offering the service, after it noticed that call back calls were being made from Bahrain to this number. Call back services are illegal in Bahrain as they bypass the licensed international calls providers. The TRA’s general director, Andreas Avgousti said that the regulator had taken immediate action when it was made aware of the practice by issuing the emergency order. The company in Singapore has also been requested to block access to this service from Bahrain. “We take compliance within the telecommunications law and the protection of those who are licensed to provide services in Bahrain very seriously,” Avgousti commented.
