Al Jazeera has launched a new service that airs unedited live conferences and other gatherings. The launch was made at the Al Jazeera Television Production Festival, which began in Doha today. “Al Jazeera has launched yet another first in Arab broadcasting in the shape of 'Al Jazeera Live,' a new specialised media service that will air live conferences, meetings, discussions and other gatherings covering political, social, cultural, economic and other issues of relevance,” managing director, Waddah Khanfa said. The service, which does not use either anchor people or an editing process, will initially be received via the Arabsat satellite, but plans are afoot to use other satellites at a later stage. Apart from its flagship Arab news channel, Al Jazeera has a sports channel and plans to launch an English-language channel, Al Jazeera International, later this year. Documentary and children's channels are also in the pipeline.
