Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdullah Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, chairman of the Sharjah Ports Authority, opened the Retail Middle East exhibition at Expo Centre Sharjah today (Monday April 18, 2005.) The three day exhibition features suppliers of shelving, display systems and other vital store infrastructure. “Retail Middle East, the region’s exclusive and dedicated trade event for the retail industry, has received tremendous response from leading industry players,” said Ahmed Al Shamsi, second vice chairman, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry. “The three day event features over 100 leading suppliers, major manufacturers and players in the retail industry,” he added. The show has been organised by Expo Centre Sharjah in association with National Association of Store Fixture Manufacturers (NASFM), USA, and Point of Purchase Advertising International (POPAI), USA. The event is supported by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). POPAI, a trade association involved in retail marketing, launched its Middle East Chapter at the show. “Retail Middle East is making its debut at a time when the retail sector in the region is experiencing unprecedented growth due to the booming GCC economies,” said Mohammed S. Al Mosharrekh, board member, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce. “A major development that has impacted the regional retail industry as a result of this expansion in retail space is the intensification of competition among retailers. They are now being compelled to adopt new strategies to counter the cut-throat competition and maintain their leadership edge,” he added. The show runs from 10am to 6 pm daily until Wednesday.
