Indian Consul General Yash Sinha opened IT retailer Jacky’s sixth UAE store this week at the Ibn Battuta mall, Jebel Ali, Dubai. The 5,000 square foot showroom is the latest addition to the Jacky’s chain and its largest mall-based store to date. Ashish Panjabi, Jacky’s chief operating officer, said: “The mall doesn’t officially open until this afternoon, so we are very glad to have this many people come to our opening. A lot of our deliveries are in this area and we think that this region could account for up to 70% of our business. The city is growing, tourism is growing and traffic is growing. The people who live here don’t want to sit in traffic, they want to come to a local one stop-shop, which is what we offer.” Panjabi was also optimistic about the store’s location, citing its positioning next to competitors as a positive influence. “As the market is growing, competition is growing too. But you have to stand tall above them. We believe that being in the same area as our competition actually brings business to us.” Jacky’s founder and group manager, Jacky Panjabi, also attended the opening. “I have seen us grow a long way from establishing as a mail order service 35 years ago. We’ve been in Dubai for 20 years now and as the UAE is moving, we are moving. Today I’m very proud of what we have achieved,” he said. Customers reacted eagerly to the opening and goods were flying off the shelves almost immediately. Local businessman Girish Kewalramani said, “It’s a great store and Jacky’s has a very wide product range. As a chain they are growing aggressively and they are growing fast.” Jacky’s latest store is located in the Andalusia section of the Ibn Battuta mall, off interchange six of Sheikh Zayed road, in Jebel Ali, Dubai.
