Work is set to commence on the multi-billion dollar Wave project in Oman next month. Site preparation work for the region’s latest lavish offshore development will pave the way for the first construction phase to begin. According to His Excellency Abdullah bin Abbas bin Ahmed, chairman of Waterfront Investments — the government’s representative in the project — the development will ‘offer unparalleled opportunities to the Arab and the foreign investors who are looking for an exciting, authentic new destination.’ The announcement comes as developer Majid Al Futaim prepares to appoint a project management consultant. Chief executive Peter Walichnowski said that he is now on the hunt for ‘best in class’ consultants and service providers to work on the project. “As we look forward to the start of the first phase of The Wave project, we will shortly be announcing the appointment of the project management consultants and the sales and marketing agency to join the development team. “With Oman’s tourism industry on the threshold of an exciting era, all the partners are committed to making The Wave a true success story and to the ambitious timeline agreed,” commented Walichnowski. The Wave, which will be established along a beachfront of 7.3 kilometres just west of the capital Muscat, is a joint venture comprising Oman’s Waterfront Investments, representing the Government of the Sultanate of Oman, the National Investment Funds Company that represents the Omani Pension Funds and State General Reserve Funds, and the UAE’s Majid Al Futtaim Investments. The first phase of the project will involve the reclamation of land, infrastructure development and an 18-hole golf course and marina. The second phase will feature the development of hotels, villas, towers and upscale apartment complexes, as well as retail and restaurant outlets.
