Nortel Networks has added to its range of wireless local area network (WLAN) products. The new WLAN 2300 series addresses the mobility needs of all customer segments, ranging from small- and medium-sized businesses to large enterprises and service providers. According to the company, its new solutions boost the performance of voice and multimedia applications over a WLAN. The products are aimed at lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO) and increasing deployment flexibility, since the 2300 models are optimised for mobile use with any device (WLAN handset, mobile voice client, Blackberry handheld device, handheld PC etc.) and are capable of supporting thousands of access points across multiple networks. "Business professionals in this region expect to connect in a reliable and secure manner regardless of whether they are using a mobile phone, a PDA, WLAN, or an IP phone," said Ramin Attari, vice president, Middle East, Nortel Networks. "The focus is on providing a common experience for users, regardless of the device and whether they access the network by wired or wireless connection." The Nortel WLAN 2300 Series is a complete 802.11 solution that includes products and solutions such as security switches, a multi-mode access point and a management software system.
