Globalisation of the retail sector will be the subject of a keynote presentation by one of Europe’s senior retail gurus at April 18’s Retail Professionals Conference. Dr Bernd Hallier, managing director of the European Retail Institute (EHI), will present a paper entitled ‘Globalisation of the Retail Industry: What lies ahead?’ “The next 25 years will see the globalisation of top players, online deals, retail techniques and leading fairs,” says Dr Hallier. “However, segmentation will remain in demand as consumers become more and more individualistic and expect more choice,” he adds. The Retail Professionals Conference takes place at Sharjah Expo Centre alongside the Retail Middle East show, which runs from April 18 to 20. The event will bring together retailers and suppliers of vital infrastructure used to manage stores. Highlights will include shop fitting and store equipment, visual merchandising tools, signage, point of purchase material, information technology, logistics services and security systems. Other speakers at the Retail Professionals Conference include Richard Blatt, president and CEO of POPAI (Point of Purchase Advertising International); Christoph Haibock, consultant at Umdasch Shop Concept, a shop fitting company; and Simon Thomson, principal at Retail International, a retail consultancy based in the United Kingdom.
