Systems Integrator Bayanat Data Processing Systems (DPS) has installed a Nexans and Cisco based network across the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Free Zone, in the United Arab Emirates. The US$1 million project was implemented over a three-month period. The network will benefit over 700 companies operating in the free zone, and connects over 900 desktops across three buildings, as well as to the free zone’s satellite office in Abu Dhabi. Ossama El Omari, project director general of the RAK Free Zone, hopes the new network will attract further investment in the area. “Since establishing the RAK Free Zone four years ago, we have witnessed a rapid increase in the number of business partners locating their companies with us,” he says. “We wanted to provide an end-to-end communications solution that our clients could utilise from day one.” The network provides Cisco converged technologies such as voice, internet access, and video to users. A local area network (LAN) will also provide remote wireless access to the main network from anywhere in the world. Athar Moin, branch manager, Bayanat-DPS Dubai, confirms the network’s effectiveness. “The Nexans and Cisco infrastructure will ensure fast, efficient and cost effective communication links for all users, as well as enable future growth for the free zone.” The implementation of this latest technology is only the second networking project of this type in the UAE, after the Dubai Internet City (DIC). Omari expects the network to grow with the free zone and provide future proof technology to its business partners. As the RAK Free Zone expands, Bayanat-DPS will continue to provide support and service as well as networking its other buildings as they are completed.
