Internet Security Systems (ISS) extended the company’s Proventia Enterprise Security Platform (ESP) with the addition of two new models, the G400 and G2000. ISS says the new Proventia appliances offer either 400Mbyts/s or 2Gbytes/s throughput, and enhanced management features along with proactive anti-spyware protection. These new intrusion prevention solutions (IPS) extend the capabilities of Proventia ESP in delivering preemptive protection for diverse network environments against known and emerging vulnerabilities and threats. Operating at line speeds for multi-gigabit network environments, Proventia Intrusion Prevention Appliances are designed to block intrusions, denial of service attacks, malicious code, back doors and hybrid threats without degrading network performance and without requiring any network reconfiguration. The ISS solutions feature virtual patch protection, a preemptive security measure that protects systems against attack during the interim of time between the discovery of a vulnerability and the manual application of a security patch. The Proventia G400 and G2000 also include spyware blocking, Trust X-Force Prevention Policies, improved Policy Management and a web-based Local Management Interface (LMI). “When we began evaluating IPS systems, we were concerned that our organization had a reactive security model based principally on our existing antivirus and firewall systems. No matter how diligent any company is with patch management and updates, one unpatched system has the potential to wreak havoc on a network,” says Chris Aiden, information security manager at Pearson Education, the world’s leading education company with several thousand users worldwide. “We still patch and update our systems, but Proventia intrusion prevention appliances ensure we can better manage the patching process without creating undo risk for the organisation,” he adds.
