Health-conscious consumers will soon have a new ‘on-the-go’ snack, in the form of meat snacks company Jack Link's latest offering, the Steak Bar. Packaged like a chocolate bar, the savoury product is 97% fat-free, rich in iron and protein and low in carbohydrate. Jack Link's Steak Bars will be available in the UAE within the next month and arrive in two flavours – original and pepper. “There’s no denying that we’re a snacking society, and people will always look for the easy option when they’re on the go,” says Steven Bauer, international sales director, Jack Link's. “With the Steak Bar, they will get a convenient, healthy, guilt-free snack. As well as the health benefits, our products have a one year shelf-life.” Jack Link's has been exporting Halal-certified meat snacks to the UAE from New Zealand for seven months, the company’s first concerted push into Middle East. Concentrating initially on Dubai, but developing a presence in Abu Dhabi and Oman, Jack Link's range of Beef Jerky products comes in a range of flavours, including Original, Teriyaki, Sweet & Hot and Peppered. The company also markets Beef Steak Nuggets and Beef Sticks. Commenting on the recent trend towards healthier eating in the GCC, Bauer believes the shift is inevitable. “Obesity has become a real international problem, and whilst the drive towards healthy eating in the GCC is not as developed as in Europe and the US, I sense that it’s starting to come through here as well,” he says. It seems the timing could be right for a convenient, healthy snack option, and the company is hoping that shifting consumer attitudes will help cement its presence in the GCC. “Our products are already available in Spinneys, Choithrams and 24-7. We’re looking to supply the new Geant store in Dubai too,” comments Bauer.
