Netgear says it leads the world in revenue and ports shipped in the unmanaged Gigabit switch business, according to a report by the Dell’Oro Group. According to the report, Netgear captured 27% of the market revenue and 30% of the ports shipped in this category in 2004. The report also showed Netgear improved its worldwide Gigabit share by an additional 7% points this year over its market-leading 20% revenue share and 23% port share in 2003. The Dell’Oro report also revealed that for overall Layer 2 fixed ports including both unmanaged and managed, Netgear advanced to the number two position, second only to Cisco for 2004. “Though our broad line of managed and unmanaged Gigabit switches are designed to meet the specific needs of small- and medium-sized businesses for flexibility, functionality and affordability, we’re seeing widespread adoption of our products by businesses of all sizes,” says Patrick Lo, Netgear CEO and chairman of the board. “Our ProSafe line of business-class networking products delivers a proven combination of features, value and innovation that will continue to drive the worldwide adoption of our products and fuel our market share leadership,” he adds.
