Emirates to double retail showrooms

UAE technology giant vows to expand its retail offering in 2007 with launch of eight new stores

Emirates Computers’ president Hani Harik has revealed that the company plans to aggressively scale up its retail offering next year. The UAE-based company successfully operates a dual sales model with almost half of its business coming from the corporate sector and the rest from the consumer sector. A sustained emphasis on the enterprise market has seen its corporate division flourish in the past year and it now accounts for 60% of the firm’s net profits. The company boasts expertise in everything from mobile devices to networking. However, Harik says that the development of its commercial division — where it works with vendors such as Oracle, Vignette and Filenet — does not mean it has reduced focus on its retail offering. He claims Emirates has big plans to expand its presence next year. “Between now and July 2007 you will see us double the amount of showrooms we have,” he said. “At the moment we have eight, but we intend to take it up to 16.” At least one of those stores could be focused exclusively on Dell products, according to Harik. Dell remains one of Emirates Computers’ largest partners with more than 100 of its 460-strong sales team focused on selling Dell kit. Harik says that with many of Dubai’s shopping malls preferring to have a branded name above the shop door he is keen for Emirates Computers to pioneer a Dell-branded outlet: “We hope to open a Dell concept store very soon. All it would sell is Dell — nothing else.”
