InterContinental Hotels Group is continuing its move into the mid-tier hotel sector, with the opening of its first Holiday Inn property in Kuwait in March. The 135-room Holiday Inn Kuwait, which is located 200 metres from the seafront and 22km from Kuwait International Airport, will target both the business and leisure markets. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, 24-hour gym and a range of restaurants including Lebanese and Chinese. The opening of the Holiday Inn Kuwait brings the total number of Holiday Inn properties in the Middle East to 16. The property is also the InterContinental Hotels Group’s second property in Kuwait, joining the Crowne Plaza Hotel Kuwait City. “More guests have stayed at a Holiday Inn hotel than at any other hotel brand in the world. Holiday Inn is so popular because it provides what is really important to our guests such as a great night’s sleep, a hearty breakfast, an outstanding rewards programme and friendly, helpful staff,” says Denis Johnson, vice president, sales and marketing, InterContinental Hotels Group, Middle East and Africa. The introduction of the Holiday Inn brand to Kuwait is part of a long-term project by InterContinental Hotels Group to move into the budget sector of hotel accommodation. Following the Kuwait opening, the group plans to introduce its economy brand, Express by Holiday Inn, to the region. “Express by Holiday Inn is a budget brand. Our intention is to launch 25 to 30 hotels within the next five years in order to establish a brand within that budget segment in the GCC,” Johnson explains.
