Nokia has announced the Arabic-enabled Nokia 9500 Communicator. Aimed at mobile professionals across the Middle East and North Africa, the smartphone puts e-mail, PIM, enterprise-class and office applications into the pockets of businesspeople on the move. The device’s launch was held in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Ali Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Bahrain Minister of Communications, who unveiled the phone at the Nokia stand of the recent Telecom Arabiya 2005 exhibition and conference. “For us, ‘connecting people’ means more than just a commitment to develop the best phones for work and life; it means providing the language interfaces that enhances the Arabic user’s experience with these powerful devices,” commented Eddie Maalouf, general manager, Nokia MENA. The 9500 costs $800-900 depending upon distributor pricing. In addition to the Communicator's new Arabic interface option, Nokia’s Middle East and North Africa website (www.nokiamena.com) can also be accessed in Arabic, as well as in English and French. The launch of the 9500 is not the only business-aimed Nokia product to be launched recently, as only last month the firm expanded its portfolio to include a suite of four internet protocol security (IPSec) virtual private network (VPN)-based products for enterprise users.
