As it expands its presence across operations in Kuwait, Iraq, Tunisia and Algeria, Wataniya Telecom, is launching the first national EDGE network and SIM upgrade of its kind in the region. Over 800,000 customers will be EDGE-enabled as the telecom company migrates its entire customer base in Kuwait to a significantly enhanced network. Wataniya customers will have access to a fully homogeneous EDGE network, with a new SIM card that changes the customer’s mobile interface. The move will provide a platform for highly advanced mobile services at no additional cost to customers. Wataniya is provisioning the next generation of its services, and this is the first step in that direction. The company aims to put a more powerful SIM into the hands of its customers, as well as developing a more powerful network to serve the growing needs. “We’re rolling out the red carpet for our customers across Kuwait as we set new standards for mobile services,” says Harri Koponen, CEO of Wataniya Telecom. “Our customers today are empowered with the best network quality, 100% coverage across Kuwait, and a guarantee of an improved mobile experience.” Over the past two months, Wataniya has been rebuilding its entire network infrastructure and extending coverage into and throughout the desert areas of Kuwait. The move significantly enhances call quality and will support the rollout of a range of highly advanced mobile services, including true m-commerce, information services, and locational services. The mobile culture in Kuwait is recognised as one of the most advanced in the region and customers are largely reliant on their mobiles, according to Koponen. “Wataniya Telecom is going the extra mile to ensure that our customers know they have a network they can rely on totally, 24/7, for access services that will make their lives easier, and a high level of security,” he explains. The new SIM card is the tool that will open up this new world to Wataniya customers. Featuring a Wataniya Telecom menu, the updated SIM card is set up to include the customer’s preferred services. Even when the customer decides to change handsets, the features on the SIM remain constant, thus creating a single, constant interface through the card. Customers can receive their new SIM cards from any of the existing Wataniya branches across Kuwait, as well as at twelve additional locations set up for the next three months in every mall in the country. The upgrade program includes customer information processes to show people how they can immediately benefit from the power of the new SIM.
