Hard drive vendor Maxtor has signaled its intention to aggressively tackle grey market product flow and promote best practice among its worldwide distribution partners with the appointment of Franziska Hanreich as channel compliance officer. Hanreich, 48, has been named as director of channel compliance and will work alongside Maxtor’s finance organisation. “Maxtor is committed to promoting best channel practices,” said Hanreich. “Managing channel inventories, minimising grey market activities and ensuring compliance with regional warranty policies are all central to supporting a healthy channel.” To keep Maxtor’s channel in tip-top condition, Hanreich will work with Maxtor’s sales and marketing team as well as the company’s auditors to ensure best practices both internally and externally. This includes the consistent application and measurement of channel policies. Hanreich will also represent Maxtor in the in Alliance for Grey Market and Counterfeit Abatement (AGMA), an industry consortium set up to eradicate grey market activities. Hanreich joined Maxtor in 1996 and serves as director of financial planning and business planning prior to her new role. With the global hard drive space now a commodity business characterised by slender margins, policing the channel and controlling inventory plays a critical role in determining the overall health of a vendor’s business. With components traders constantly looking for regional price differences and actively seeking to take advantage of currency fluctuations on a worldwide basis, eradicating grey channel activity is a tough task to take on.
