Global IT services and consulting powerhouse Satyam has signed a strategic partnership with Emirates Consulting Group (ECG). The deal combines ECG’s local touch with Satyam’s deep technical expertise and extensive offshore resources. Under the terms of the agreement, Satyam will provide real-time support for projects executed by ECG and help improve the local and regional IT talent pool. Satyam has already invested in building up a presence across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) and has over 100 staff in the region. Satyam has also brought on board Arab nationals from various countries for existing projects. “The knowledge transfer programme with ECG announced today will involve classroom training and on-the-job training on processes and methodologies followed by Satyam,” explained B. Rama Raju, managing director at Satyam. Mohammed Al Ali, CEO at ECG, added: “We are delighted to be associated with Satyam. With their IT expertise, this partnership will lead to an enhancement of employment opportunities for Nationals and the successful delivery of IT projects in the region.” Besides taking responsibility for cost and delivery, Satyam will also manage the 360-degree implementation of the projects. Satyam offers an array of solutions customised for different industry sectors and a wide range of services from strategy consulting through to implementation. Ajith Menon, head of Satyam’s MEA operations, added: “The Middle East is a critical component of Satyam’s global expansion strategy, as it is a rapidly growing IT services market. We have achieved 75% growth in the region and are targeting similar growth figures in 2005. To drive regional investment, we are opening a fourth regional office in Saudi Arabia and developing Dubai as our key base.” Satyam is one of several Indian IT giants whose technical strength and efficient business model have helped to revolutionise the global services delivery model. Offshore outsourcing is now commonplace in Europe and the US. The emergence of players such as Satyam has also created stiff competition for established global systems integrators such as EDS and IBM Global Services.
