Jordan telecomm firm Fastlink has completed its move from Microsoft’s Great Plains software to Oracle’s E-Business Suite. The year-long project has seen Fastlink overhaul its financial reporting structure and automate a number of its key business processes. Fastlink officials said the new system allows it to close its books 25% faster and reduce its procurement cycle time by up to 25%, while it has automated up to 70% of its operations in areas such as payroll, expenses and operations “We took a decision to simplify, standardise and automate a number of key internal processes in order to reduce our operational costs and give Fastlink’s management a single, consolidated view of our finances and staff resources,” said Omar Said, CFO, Fastlink. “In the few months since we completed our Oracle E-Business Suite deployment, our financial closings are up to 25% faster and automation levels around procurement, order management and human resources are exceeding 50%, all of which makes a considerable difference on Fastlink’s bottom line,” he added. Oracle disclosed details of the Fastlink deal after Microsoft’s capturing of one of its customers, satellite telecomm firm Thuraya, which is switching from Oracle Financials to Great Plains (see IT Weekly 19-25 February 2005). “They’re talking about a customer who is going to migrate, we’re talking about somebody who has already migrated and is very happy with the result,” said Ayman Abouseif, senior marketing director at Oracle Middle East. “The powerful functionality in Oracle to handle the procurement, budgeting, workflow and date track in HR, in addition to extended capabilities to accommodate up to 30 accounting segments in Financials, were some of the good reasons we moved from Microsoft Great Plains to Oracle E-Business Suite 11i,” added Ehab Hafez, ERP manager for Fastlink.
