Home networking vendor Linksys has put together a special promotion alongside UAE internet service provider eCompany and security software vendor Symantec. The promotion provides new broadband internet access subscribers a range of savings including reduced monthly rentals, waiver of registration fees and reductions in up-front hardware costs. Sam Alkharrat, regional sales manager for service providers at Cisco, said: “This is a key milestone that strengthens the partnership between Cisco Systems and Etisalat, and develops the first step in our joint go-to-market strategy. Our global expertise in terms of leading edge, easy-to-use, value-priced broadband and wireless solutions for the home means that we can deliver quality end-user experience.” “Al Shamil customers now have the freedom to use internet over broadband within their home by using the Linksys wireless broadband gateways. It also delivers a strong future value as the customer can always build up security, entertainment, gaming and mobility services using Linksys’ extended product set,” he added. The new promotion, aimed at home users subscribing to eCompany’s Al Shamil broadband access service will run until March 31st. New customers will be eligible for a 50% discount on the Al Shamil package for the first three months. The registration fee will be waived and customers can obtain a 50% reduction on the cost of either a standard modem or wireless ADSL/cable gateway from Linksys. Building on its recent tie-up with Symantec, eCompany will also offer Al Shamil customers the software vendor’s Norton anti-virus and personal firewall products free of charge. Vikram Suri, country manager southern Gulf and Levant at Symantec, commented: “Symantec is delighted to be working with eCompany, one of a group of leading ISPs around the world who Symantec has partnered with, to deliver this protection to users. This is an important step in the delivery of our strategic alliance with eCompany earlier this year.” Abdulla Hashim, senior manager at eCompany, added: “The launch of this promotion is a wonderful opportunity for UAE consumers to capitalise on the myriad benefits of broadband in terms of speed and access to a new world of experiences like music downloads, streaming videos and the like in a secure environment.” Alliances involving hardware and software vendors working alongside service providers have become a valuable channel-to-market for companies looking to drive adoption of their product set among home users. The up-front discounts attract customers and allow the vendors to build brand equity in the minds of the end-user, which hopefully paves the way for follow-on sales at a later date.
