Aptec bagged four gongs at U.S. Robotics Middle East 2004 partner awards ceremony held in Dubai this week including the much-coveted Best Regional Distributor award. In total, U.S. Robotics dished out more than 20 awards as it celebrated rapid sales growth across its entire product portfolio in the region. “In the wireless sector we have grown at over double the market rate in the Middle East,” explained Peter Blampied, director of sales and operations at U.S. Robotics Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). “And in the ADSL market, which has grown hugely across the Middle East, we have seen growth of roughly four times the market rate.” As well as reflecting on a successful 2004, Blampied also gave channel partners a glimpse of what to expect from U.S. Robotics in 2005. “We will continue to split our product lines to address the needs of the consumer and corporate space,” said Blampied. “Wireless is our number one focus, but we are also interested in the emerging market of network attached storage (NAS), so you will see some interesting products in that category. Firewall appliances is another product segment we are interested in and we already have one product in that area,” he added. U.S. Robotics selected its award winners using a matrix of different factors to assess performance and achievement during the previous year’s trading. Alongside its Best Regional Distributor accolade, Aptec also picked up the Special Achievement Award for Non-Analogue Sales while employees Vineet Kajaria and Sumit Kumar took home gongs for Best Business Development Manager (UAE) and Best Regional Product Manager respectively. Rival distributors will be working overtime to try and dislodge Aptec from its U.S. Robotics channel throne in the year ahead. Said one rival: “We came here tonight knowing that we probably would not get an award. But we came anyway. This event has served as a wake-up call for the team and you can guarantee that we will not miss the ball in 2005.” Advanced Integrated Media (AIM), represented by general manager Bassam S. Abu Baker, picked up the Best Country Distributor Award for its exceptional efforts in Saudi Arabia. At a reseller and retailer level in the Kingdom, Extra, Electro, Waseet Electronics, ICC, Specialized Computer Services and Al Shaddadi also picked up prizes. Essam Saudi Arabian Projects received a Special Achievement Award for Analogue Sales in 2004. E-Tech Systems and Solutions was named as Best Partner in Kuwait. In the UAE, Quality Computers won awards for both Best Retailer and Best Wholesaler. Computer Care, Grandsys, New Trend Computer Networks, Advanced Business Computers and Blue Bell also went home happy after bagging awards.
