Lufthansa Technik has secured an order to service and refurbish a Boeing 747-400 for a customer within the Gulf region. The VIP aircraft is currently in Hamburg undergoing a comprehensive D-check, which should be completed this month. The aircraft will then be refitted, which will take until the middle of next year. During the project, which is expected to require around 300,000 hours of work, the aircraft will be equipped with sleeping quarters, as well as conference and work compartments. State of the art communications and airborne entertainment systems will also be installed, including Lufthansa Technik’s cabin management and entertainment system, NICE. This technology integrates and controls all cabin functions, as well as distributing audio, video and data signals over an onboard Ethernet network. “This is our 11th contract to equip a VIP jumbo jet and in addition to this order, we are currently equipping another Boeing 747-400,” noted Walter Heerdt, senior vice president, marketing & sales, Lufthansa Technik. “This is [therefore] the first time in our long history that we will be equipping two widebodies at the same time with VIP cabins.”
