Intel forms channel-focused unit

Processor giant Intel has unveiled a global corporate restructuring to split its business into five divisions. The move includes the creation of a Channel Products Group, headed up globally by Bill Siu, which will bring all the units focused on channel sales into one cohesive unit.

Processor giant Intel has unveiled a global corporate restructuring to split its business into five separate divisions. The move includes the creation of a Channel Products Group (CPG), headed up globally by Bill Siu, which will bring all the units focused on channel sales and channel development into one cohesive unit. The other four units created through Intel’s restructuring will be the Mobility Group focused on platforms for mobile devices; the Digital Enterprise Group focused on infrastructure platforms for business; the Digital Home Group focused on computing and communication platforms for consumers, and the Digital Health Group responsible for developing the use of Intel architecture in healthcare-related areas. The change comes as Intel celebrates the ten-year anniversary of its reseller channel programme. The programme, which covers Intel’s worldwide network of distributors, resellers, assemblers and sales teams, is a route-to-market that now accounts for approximately one-third of all Intel processor sales. Globally, Intel’s channel programme now serves 160,000 resellers in 112 countries around the world through a network of more than 1,000 distributors. Emerging markets have played a pivotal role in the rapid expansion of Intel’s global channel reach. During 2004, Intel recruited 25,000 new resellers in emerging markets, opened a series of new offices and achieved a presence in more than 1,200 cities. Maan Ahmadie, Intel’s channel manager for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa, commented: “The worldwide celebration is also an occasion for us to recognize the success of our channel programme here in the Middle East. We take this occasion to thank out distributors, as well as all the Intel Product Integrators and the Intel Premier Providers for the growth and success that they are helping us to achieve, making this region one of the fastest growing for Intel in the world.” Bill Siu, in his new role as VP of Intel CPG, said: “Evident by our long history and the increases focus we announced with the standalone organisation for our channel programmes, Intel is committed to bringing computing and communications technologies to countries around the world. We can accomplish this by helping to establish local businesses and providing training on how to build and sell computers.” “We also collaborate with local governments to bring PCs and technology literacy to people in order to bridge the technology gap between established and emerging markets,” he added.
