Dubai retailer Jacky’s is nearing the end of a major refurbishment in preparation for the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF). Jacky’s has a host of goodies planned for January, including a ‘who wants to be a millionaire’ style radio show and a tie-up with jeweler Alukkas. “We have gone into IT retail in a major way and digital devices now account for a third of our sales,” said Ashish Panjabi, Jacky’s chief operating officer. “There will now be more space given over to mobiles, cameras, LCD televisions and other ‘in demand merchandise’. We felt that we needed to give those products more space, and give customers more breathing room.” The new layout echoes the retail environment of shopping hotspots in the Far East, and places much more emphasis on aesthetics. Jacky’s flagship store at Deira City Centre has been the first for a makeover with a design consisting of front window showcases, promotion areas and a wide central walkway. The new look will be mirrored in new Jacky’s stores scheduled to open in the Gardens Mall and Sharjah in February and March respectively. Revamping its store layouts is one of a number of moves Jacky’s is making for DSF. “We have formed an alliance with jeweler Alukkas, and we feel that the tie-up will serve us well. Their customer base is completely separate from ours, so both companies will capitalise by cross branding and bringing in customers who we would not normally see visiting our showrooms,” said Panjabi. Other highlights include flight giveaways, jewelry sets up for grabs and two Jeeps fully loaded with a DVD system. Panjabi also claims that Jacky’s will better any price offered by other retailers. But the ace up Jacky’s sleeve must surely be its ‘who wants to be a millionaire’ style radio show. “You’ll be hearing Jacky’s Jackpot all during DSF. Based on one of the most popular game shows around, the public will have a chance to win big prizes. Jacky’s Jackpot will be running concurrently on different stations in the four major languages of Dubai — Malayalam, Hindi, Arabic and English,” concluded Panjabi.
