SAP Arabia will soon launch a major campaign targeting the small to medium business sector. SAP Arabia also has plans for the government sector after launching Arabised versions of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions. “We have cornered the corporates and we are now tackling the SMB business, an area we previously didn’t play in,” said Nabeel Hamad, business development director at SAP Arabia. “We have also finished work on our Arabic offerings and the first customer is already going live in Saudi Arabia.” “Now that a localised solution is in place, we can actually cater to the requirements of governments and telcos in the region. This development will open doors for us, especially in the government sector where it is a prerequisite to have Arabic. Since businesses and organisations heard of the news enquiries have been flooding in,” added Hamad. Hamad belives that SAP’s recent deal with Co-op Islami could presage a host of deals in the SMB sector as fear, doubt and uncertainty clouds offerings from ERP rivals Oracle and Peoplesoft during the merger period. “With the deal between our rivals to form one company, there are now only two ERP choices for companies in the Middle East,” added Hamad. “While our rival takes a long time to iron out bugs in his systems, SAP is working to improve its software, expand integration and also produce a wide variety of products designed with smaller SMB customers in mind.” “We believe that our solution is the best, we think it is cost effective and over longer periods is cheaper to run [than the competitor’s wares]. SAP solutions help the customer do better business,” concluded Hamad.
