As part of its continued commitment to meeting Emiratisation requirements, HSBC has seen a second group of UAE nationals through its ‘HSBC University’ programme. The group has completed six months of comprehensive training, which included a combination of classroom events, business projects and attachments to various branches and departments at HSBC. In all, a total of 68 nationals have so far attended the ‘HSBC University’, and a further group of graduates are preparing to commence training at the end of December. The bank’s training programme was officially launched in January 2004 to induct UAE nationals into a specific job role following an agreed training and development programme. By enrolling in the University staff are given clear direction and pace for their chosen career and growth. Colin Mann, regional training manager, hosted a graduation ceremony that was also attended by managers, mentors, and trainers. Certificates were presented to all successful candidates. Shahnaz Al Mazem, human resources manager for Emiratisation at the bank, praised the trainees and congratulated them on their achievements. She added: “We aim to hire the best and to provide UAE nationals the highest level of training, opening new vistas of opportunities in the Bank which further boosts our Emiratisation drive.”
