NEC has introduced two new desktop systems into the region. Its Powermate VL6 and ML7 machines are aimed squarely at business users looking for high performance, fully expandable PCs. “The all-new Powermate VL Series is yet another example of NEC’s expertise in the field of IT and is sure to meet and exceed the computing requirements of businesses throughout the Middle East”, said Lenia Lacovides, managing director of interfrontiers, the Regional Business Development Unit for NEC and Packard Bell. NEC’s Powermate VL6 features Intel’s latest i915GV chipset, meaning it can support Pentium 4 processors with hyper-threading technology, Intel’s advanced 800MHz front side bus and PCI Express. The new VL7 boasts the same features and also supports the faster PCI Express 16x slot, meaning users can slot in and utilise higher end PCI Express graphics cards. These two Powermate VL models also offer dual-channel DDR400 memory, integrated Intel GigaBit LAN, enhanced graphics performance with Intel’s Graphics Media Accelerator 900 and support for Serial ATA HDD drives. The VL6 is available in the full range of form factors. In addition to a standard desktop chassis buyers can choose NEC’s new slim chassis, which includes two PCI slots and one PCI Express 1X slot, together with two internal and two external bays. The ML7 adds an extra PCI slot and a PCI Express 16x slot. NEC’s new micro tower option is also available, allowing for greater expandability with the same motherboard by adding an extra two external bays. NEC’s two new Powermate models are available immediately across the region. Pricing will be determined by what system configuration each customer prefers, but for example a PowerMate VL6 PC featuring Intel’s i915GV chipset and built around a tool-less micro tower chassis will retail at $808.
