Taiwanese hardware vendor BenQ and Dubai-based Almasa IT Distribution have mutually agreed to terminate their distribution agreement. Almasa had carried BenQ’s complete range of products, including laptops and ODD products. While Almasa confirmed it had ended the agreement several weeks ago, it did not comment further. BenQ issued a statement explaining the reasons behind the breakup. “BenQ Middle East can confirm that it has ended its relationship with Almasa IT Distribution after two years working together. Following an internal review and assessment of the partnership, we came to the decision that Almasa no longer matched our requirements for the Middle East market at the current time. We thank them for all their hard work, and wish them the very best for the future,” said Manish Bakshi, general manager, BenQ Middle East. BenQ recently rang the changes to its distribution setup by appointing eSys to cover the UAE market. Almasa has moved much closer to Acer in recent months — a vendor with a similar product lineup up to BenQ. Almasa will appoint more vendors in the coming weeks to strengthen its HDD and ODD lineup even further.
