Jebel Dhanna on schedule to open in Abu Dhabi in January

Countdown is underway for the opening this January of a new deluxe resort at Jebel Dhanna, 240km west of Abu Dhabi city, the first move in the development of the area as a major tourism destination.

Countdown is underway for the opening this January of a new deluxe resort at Jebel Dhanna, 240km west of Abu Dhabi city, the first move in the development of the area as a major tourism destination. The 109-room Danat Resort Jebel Dhanna is owned and operated by Danat Hotels & Resorts, a division of National Corporation of Tourism & Hotels. General manager, Manoj Kanwal is confident that the five-star resort and its location in a previously undeveloped area of the UAE will prove an attraction for both local and international tourists. “Our major markets will be the GCC region and Europe. The hotel has already confirmed bookings from German, Swiss and Austrian tour operators for the forthcoming winter season, underlining the desire of European tourists to explore new, undiscovered, areas of the country. But we also expect to attract a large proportion of guests from the region itself, as Jebel Dhanna represents a new destination for GCC residents too,” he says. The launch of the new resort, the first five-star deluxe hotel on the undeveloped west coast of the UAE, marks a new phase in its development with the addition of the upscale property. “Danat Resort Jebel Dhanna is the first five-star deluxe resort on the west coast of the UAE. Promoting a philosophy of ‘pure leisure’, the Danat Resort Jebel Dhanna offers a pristine beach, landscaped gardens, health club and spa, a par-36 nine-hole sand golf course and driving range, pool and sports facilities, plus access to Sir Bani Yas wildlife reserve island and the deep dunes of the west coast,” Kanwal told Hotelier Middle East. “The 109-room property also has six waterfront villas available for short breaks with utmost privacy. Research tells us that a retreat atmosphere will do well for the regional and international market, with travellers looking for ‘something new’ for their holidays, as well as a little exclusivity,” Kanwal explains. A marketing campaign is being rolled out ahead of the opening of the resort. It aims to ensure that the new destination is recognised as one providing total leisure. According to Kanwal, promotion is made easier due to the fact that the Arabian Gulf is an increasingly popular option for both winter and summer sunshine. “We can obviously capitalise on the efforts made by Abu Dhabi and its hospitality sector, which have resulted in tremendous demand for Arabia. “Now, we must show we have the facilities on offer for seasoned holidaymakers plus a ‘getaway’ environment as increasing numbers of people look to escape from the pressures of urban life,” Kanwal remarks.
