HP tops IDC's local charts

IDC Middle East has once again crowned HP as king of the region’s desktop and mobile market.

IDC Middle East has once again crowned HP as king of the region’s desktop and mobile market. According to the research firm’s figures for 3Q04, the computing giant pulled in a market share of 13% for desktop sales and 22% in the mobile space. HP has been particularly keen to highlight its prowess in Saudi Arabia, where it runs a PC manufacturing facility. Within the Kingdom, the vendor achieved a mobile market share of 23.5% and 26% for desktops. In Egypt, HP also landed the number one spot with a 28.7% market share in the mobile market and a 12.3% share in the desktop space. In the UAE, the firm recorded market share figures of 32% and 25.5% for the desktop and mobile space respectively. “The IDC report figures say it all. HP’s leadership in the region is testimony to our commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions to the enterprise, SMB and consumer segments. HP has also captured the PDA market and is now an active player in the mobile phone industry... We are now a force to watch out for in the mobile phone arena,” says Christoph Schell, solutions partner organisation manager (ISE) & general manager for the personal systems group at HP Middle East.
