Linksys has inked a deal with Logicom to distribute its range of networking products in Lebanon and Jordan. The networking vendor — a wholly owned Cisco subsidiary — is also close to signing agreements with major retailers. “We came to an agreement with Logicom for Lebanon and Jordan and will be launching with a road show,” commented Mohammed Meraj Hoda, regional manager at Linksys Middle East and Africa. The deal had been delayed due to legislative holdups but has now received the green light and Logicom becomes Linksys’ second distributor for the Levant alongside Tech Data, which also holds distribution rights for the rest of the Middle East. Linksys presently has no plans to increase its distribution channel in the rest of the Middle East, according to Hoda. “We are very new to the market and we want to be sure that we have the proper foundations on the ground before we add more distributors. We don’t want to have a conflict in the market with distributors fighting for the same territories,” he said. Linksys is also looking to gain more of a presence in the GCC retail sector by working with supermarkets and power retailers to educate customers on networking technology for the home and small office. “There is a change now in buying habits where people are moving away from the mom and pop shops and going to these hypermarkets,” said Robert Auci, Europe Middle East and Africa sales director at Linksys. “Customers are not confident that they are getting the best deal from mom and pop shops. In contrast, when they go to the new retail outlets they know that they will get good service. There will be an increasing demand for these retailers and we want to work with them.”
