Despite the United Arab Emirates’ call for more local labour, workers from other countries will still find jobs in the country, according to a report from the Media International Centre. The study revealed that the emiratisation issue, although a priority, hasn’t been solved by any of the proposed solutions including hiring quotas and more. Given the fact that the expatriate workforce in the UAE is the highest among all Gulf countries –– at 91% –– the issue has been regarded as a top priority by the government. The absence of willpower to find a permanent solution to the issue was listed as the major factor for the continuity of the unemployment among UAE nationals, according to the study. It suggested that authorities adopt the Omani and Saudi models in managing the labour market and implementing the nationalisation of jobs policies. The study concluded that the imbalance in the demographic structure of the UAE has developed throughout over years and cannot be solved quickly.
