Dubai TV has been building new studios and upgrading the studios at its old facility to cater to its new programming needs. One significant aspect of these studios has been the installation of appropriate lighting solutions. Its most recent acquisition includes a 600 square metre sports studio at Dubai TV’s old facility. This studio has been equipped with a fully motorised rigging system called the DeSisti Telescope to enable the vertical positioning and adjustment of lights. “It is important to have the flexibility to move your lights around in a sports studio because the décor changes based on the game that is being played — today it might be the Premier League and tomorrow it might be the UAE Football Federation,” says Basil Arif, sales and marketing manager, professional projects division, Oasis Enterprises. Oasis has been responsible for the supply and integration of lighting solutions at Dubai TV’s newsroom in Dubai Media City and some of its other studios. Although Dubai TV’s old facility will be shifted to DMC, this will not affect the new installation, says Arif. “One of the advantages of this system is that it can easily be shifted and since we were responsible for the lighting at the main newsroom, we have also been able to take care of the inetgration easily,” he adds. Dubai TV’s newsroom was a much bigger project, which included the installation of digital dimming systems, lighting control systems and both colour changing as well as conventional lights. Oasis installed a DMX networking system from European Theatre Controls (ETC) here to control the dimming and fading of the lights as per the channel’s requirements. Oasis also supplied the channel with an outdoor location lighting system and was responsible for refurbishing the lighting system at a second studio in Dubai TV’s old facility. It was also responsible for the supply and installation of the controls, dimming and lights at a smaller Dubai TV studio in Garhoud, which is used for the channel’s cookery programme. “We have done the lighting for almost all the broadcasters in the UAE including CNBC Arabiya, MBC and eight out of Abu Dhabi TV’s nine studios,” says Arif, adding that more lighting projects are in the offing for the systems integrator.
