The broadcast installation at Qatar’s new Pan-Arabic Youth Channel has spelt a major win for the France-based broadcast solutions provider, SGT, and Leitch Technology Corporation. Broadcast via satellite in Arabic, the Pan-Arabic Youth Channel will be available throughout the Arab world and Europe and ultimately worldwide. The channel will provide a wide range of programming for children and parents including talk shows, game shows, news, animation, and educational series. The installation at the channel is entirely digital. The channel uses Leitch video servers, as well as Avid, Leitch and Quantel editing and graphic stations. Additionally, the solution is based entirely on SGT software: Traffic Management for handling programmes and scheduling, Media Manager for the global management of media in the workflow, and Transmission Management for the playout of the programmes. “This project will take advantage of many specific features of SGT’s products, including totally automated mass digitisation, secure transmission in active/passive mode, the management of news and production studios, browsing in Windows Media 9 (WM9) format, content management on different SANs and global system supervision,” says Franck Durandot, marketing manager for SGT. A new Media Manager module called Storyboarding will also be used by the channel’s archivists to keep detailed records of the content of all media before archiving on a Storagetek cart machine. The Leitch installation at the channel is equally significant. For news production, studio production and transmission facility, the channel will use two NEXIO servers. It will also enhance its post production capability with VelocityQ non-linear editors powered by the Quattrus hardware platform. “Leitch will form the core of this broadcast facility functionality,” says Sami Elshafai, managing director of Salam Technical Services, systems integrator for this project. “Its Integrated Content Environment offers a good combination of performance and affordability,” he adds. Leitch’s system sales team and SGT have worked closely to ensure full functional integrity.
