Soneri Bank, in Pakistan has installed Phoenix, a transaction authorisation and switching middleware solution running on the Sun Solaris platform. Front end delivery channels including ATMs, POS Terminals, IVR systems, and call centers can now communicate with Soneri Bank via Phoenix, providing the bank with connectivity to the OneLink Switch, the largest shared ATM switch in Pakistan, which is also powered by a Sun platform. The new Phoenix solution will enable the 14-year old Soneri Bank to significantly extend its customer reach in Pakistan beyond its current 46 branches and own network of 28 ATMs in addition to the more than 700 ATMs on its shared network. Synergy Computers, Sun Microsystems’ channel partner for Pakistan, which deployed the middleware solution worked with TPS, a Pakistan based systems integrator. “As the only local solution providing switch connectivity to nineteen banks in Pakistan alone, and deployed by 50 banks worldwide, Sun-based Phoenix was the cost effective and reliable option,” says Haider Devjianie, senior vice president and Head of IT, Soneri Bank. Soneri Bank can now also update multiple environments; quickly create and modify virtual environments and host multiple applications on a single server says Sun. “For banks like Soneri, which have very high transactional volumes, Solaris provides superior safeguards against internal and external threats far beyond the protection commonly found in standard operating systems. This requirement is essential in the banking sector,” says Mohammad Sohail, CEO, TPS. Tech Access – Sun Microsystems’ Channel Development Provider (CDP), which offered pre-sales technical support and training is also providing ongoing support to TPS.
