Fujitsu Siemens is showing its faith in the tablet PC form factor with the release of a new model, the Lifebook T4010, which it claims matches the performance of high-end notebooks. Weighing in at just under 2kgs, the Lifebook T4010 is a convertible tablet PC, which features Centrino technology and an Intel Pentium M processor with 2MB second-level cache. The operating system is the recently released Microsoft Windows Tablet PC Edition 2005, which features improves handwriting recognition. “The Lifebook T4010 is the smallest and lightest 12-inch convertible notebook with real usage opportunity as a tablet PC,” said Susanne Lewitzki, product marketing manager at Fujitsu Siemens Middle East North Africa. “It redefines the concept of a notebook. While in standard mode, it is a full-feature notebook with high-end modular bay system and at low weight, it can be transformed into a Tablet PC just by flipping the screen over.” While the tablet PC has struggled to find its feet, with sales continuing to lag, Fujitsu Siemens has been one of the strongest supporters of the form factor. The company had launched a number of tablet models even before Microsoft launched the Tablet PC operating system in 2002. The T4010 is aimed at the “corridor warriors” that Microsoft has said will drive the success of the tablet: those busy executives that move from meeting to meeting and want to take a laptop with them. “The new T series notebook will be a great companion to a mobile professional,” said Lewitzki. “It saves on rework time and eliminates paper. You can illustrate your ideas directly on the tablet and distribute it via email.”
