ITT Industries said that its advanced process separation unit, Aquious, has been awarded a contract to build a 30 million gallons/day reverse osmosis desalination plant in the Middle East. To meet the ever-growing demand for water in the region, the local authority has approved the plans for implementation of the project and Aquious has been issued the contract from the local engineer, procure and contractor supplying the turnkey package. Aquious will design, manufacture, supply and install all products for the new desalination plant. The plant will take its water from the Gulf and will turn seawater into water for municipal use including drinking water. The contract includes a seawater intake pumping station, a complete pretreatment system, a reverse osmosis system and post-treatment system. Aquious will perform the mechanical installation of the equipment and provide the basis for the civil design. The plant is planned to begin operations in February 2006. Company spokespersons declined to name the location of the plant or the size of the contract saying that it was at the directions of the client. “The combined strengths of Aquious and our other brands, in this case Goulds Pumps, form a unique combination, enhancing our range of offerings to the global water and process industries,” said Robert L. Ayers, president of ITT Industries’ Fluid Technology. Jorg Menningmann, general manager of water equipment technologies group within Aquious, said, “We are committed to delivering the highest value proposition and most favourable life cycle-cost through expert technical solutions.” An innovative system needed to be designed specifically for this project. Aquious met this challenge by meeting the high performance standards required for delivering reliable and economical drinking water to the people of this region,” said Chuck Reading, president of Aquious. Aquious is a global leader in environmentally safe membrane technology and has been providing water treatment solutions for over 25 years. Its range includes desalination, treatment of surface water, reuse and industrial process separation. Its parent, ITT Industries, supplies advanced technology products and services in key markets including: fluid and water management, including water treatment; defence communication, opto-electronics, information technology and services; electronic interconnects and switches; and other specialty products. The company generated US $5.63 billion in 2003 sales.
