Epson has launched a new Expression A3 scanner aimed specifically at the professional graphics art market. The firm’s new Expression 10000XL succeeds its 1640XL model and offers a maximum resolution of 2400dpi and an optical density of 3.8 Dmax. “With a vibrant and growing professional graphics market, the Middle East is increasingly demanding high-performance scanners,” claimed Khalil El-Dalu, general manager, Epson Middle East. “At Epson we have an excellent reputation for providing high quality products to the graphics industry. The Expression 10000XL is no exception. Its enhancements will ensure it not only meets but exceeds the demands of graphic professionals”. The Expression 10000XL can scan both reflective media and film. Epson claims its new model is also faster than the previous 1640Xl version. It attributes this to the scanner’s newly designed MatrixCCD, which Epson has optimised for A3 scanning, and the product’s new transparency unit. This new transparency unit uses a new high-intensity dual lamp system, which Epson claims results in up to 1.5 times faster scan speeds than those offered by the Expression 1640XL. The 10000XL can also be directly connected to a network using Epson’s optional Network Image Express Card. The new scanner’s software package has also been designed to meet the needs of graphics professionals as the 10000XL includes a full version of LaserSoft SilverFast Ai 6, complete with IT8 target charts for pre-press applications. The 1000XL has a recommended retail price of $2,950.
