Samacom-Nilesat deal allows DMC broadcasters to uplink from Dubai

Samacom has signed a transponder deal with Nilesat to launch a Direct to Home (DTH) platform.

Samacom has signed a transponder deal with Nilesat to launch a Direct to Home (DTH) platform. According to the deal, the two companies will co-operate in marketing the new DTH platform using transponder capacity on Nilesat 102 satellite. With it, customers can uplink directly to Nilesat 102 from Dubai thereby improving broadcast quality and reducing satellite space costs for delivering their signals to the Nilesat platform in Cairo. It will also allow broadcasters from Europe, America and Asia to have their content turned around from other satellites to SamaCom’s Nilesat platform. It complements SamaCom’s portfolio of DTH platforms for Arabsat 2D, Asiasat 2, Asiasat 3S, Hotbird and Atlantic Bird satellites. “The new agreement helps us reinforce our commitment to serve broadcasters targeting the Middle East,” says Ahmad Bin Byat, director general of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone. Speaking about the partnership, Yatinder Mahajan, director of SamaCom added that it would help the company consolidate its customer base and move forward with its expansion strategy. Amin Bassiouny, CEO of Nilesat added that the partnership enhances ‘our value proposition for broadcasters in the Middle East’. SamaCom broadcasts over 79 television channels from its two teleports in Dubai. Its customer base includes over 25 broadcasters and it provides uplinks to over 20 satellites.
