Last month saw the launch of an audio-video post production facility in Dubai. Tambi’s Studios, headed by Tambi Fernando, has been designed with a Japanese touch and equipped with state-of-the-art kit. “Our clients are mostly from the advertising industry and they come here amidst a lot of pressure. This environment has been designed to put them at ease,” says Fernando. Fernando has invested US $550,000 to acquire a whole range of new equipment for the facility. The main studio is kitted out with a Pro tools HD on a MAC G5 with Control 24 console, recording at 196 khz resolution. Other solutions include the Focusrite ISA 430 Mic pre amps, Neuman U87 microphones and Genelec 1029A powered speakers. A Sonar 3 software running on a Carillon PC with a MOTU MK3 24 08 and a Yamaha O1X interface is used in the second studio. The facility’s video equipment runs the latest Avid software. Fernando, who has worked in the region for the last 12 years and been involved in the design of studios, has taken special care to design this facility’s audio studios as well. “These studios have been isolated, floated and acoustically designed for a flat response with non-parallel walls to eliminate standing waves. We have maximised on space by sharing the isolated booths. “Both audio studios can share any combination of booths/monitoring or mike configuration which gives a lot of flexibility to the audio engineers to meet with the demanding schedules of client deadlines,” he says. Fernando also has the advantage of being affiliated with production and post houses in Cairo, London, Sweden and Germany. “Our partners enable us to produce quality work cost-effectively. Based on the customer’s budget, we can offer them anything they want without housing all the equipment here,” he adds.
