Communications headset vendor Jabra has moved into Saudi Arabia after appointing Modern Markets as exclusive distributor for the Kingdom. Modern Markets will carry a select range of Jabra products, including its Bluetooth products. “By partnering with Modern Markets, we can bring Jabra products to the region quickly, and are pleased to be making our products available,” said Vincent Peña, country manager EMEA key venture markets at Jabra. Jabra weighed up all the distribution options on the table before plumping for an exclusive distribution deal with Modern Markets. “They recognised our strength in the Saudi market, especially on the electronics side, as well as realising that a multi distributor approach could backfire,” said Mathew Oommen, divisional manager at Modern Markets. “New brands should opt for a single distributor to avoid creating confusion among end-users. On our side we prefer to deal exclusively as we invest heavily in brand building for the names that we carry.” Modern Markets has built a strong distribution network throughout the Kingdom. It deals with 400 electronics and mobile phone resellers, as well as retail giants including Carrefour and Geant. The distributor also sells through its own retail chain of 30 retail outlets located in high-end malls and shopping centres across the Kingdom “Saudi Arabia and the Middle East region is witnessing fast growth in the consumer electronics sector, especially mobile technology, and the launch was a tremendous success. Jabra products were sold out in only a few days following the Saudi launch and we are trying to keep up with demand,” added Oommen. Modern Markets, a subsidiary of Ahmed Abdulwahed Anam Group, is also exclusive distributor for a bevy of brands including Thomson, Harman and Samsung (for digital music players). The company has a strong distribution network, with offices and warehouses in Jeddah, Mecca, Madina, Riyadh, Ghasim, Dammam, Khamis and Tabuk.
