Samsung plans PDA push

IT behemoth Samsung plans to launch PDAs and 3G phones in the Middle East early next year and wants to boost its channels to reach a wider variety of consumer groups.

IT behemoth Samsung plans to launch PDAs and 3G phones in the Middle East early next year and wants to boost its channels to reach a wider variety of consumer groups. Under consideration are power retailers and pure IT outlets not normally associated with mobile phone sales. “We are examining our current retail structure and for next year we may come up with new channels-to-market,” said Sandeep Saihgal, GSM sales and marketing manager at Samsung Electronics. “It is going to be a mix and match. We do need to keep our existing channels as they are reaching our customers but at the same time we will look at other solutions as we go along from market-to-market.” While few major names are present in the 3G space there are several strong players operating in the PDA market. Despite this fierce competitive landscape Saihgal is confident that Samsung will emerge as a leading force in both product segments. “We have a couple of things in place. Number one is our brand loyalty, which is very high at the moment for our mobile products,” said Saihgal. “We are strong in the IT sector as well with Samsung and the customer base is there for us. People expect Samsung to be a technology leader and so I fully believe that we can lead the market soon.” Samsung’s Middle East PDA line-up will include products operating on both the Symbian and Windows Mobile operating systems.
