Hard disk drive vendor Western Digital will extend its SelectWD partner programme across more countries in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region during the next quarter. Algeria, Nigeria, Tunisia and Morocco are top of the vendor’s target list. The channel incentive scheme has produced strong sales from resellers and assemblers taking part and has also dramatically reduced the volumes of Western Digital grey product being sold in the region each quarter. Western Digital claims to have reduced the amount of grey product in the regional channel by 75% during the last year. The SelectWD scheme offers financial incentives, marketing collateral and detailed product information to participants making the allure of grey product less attractive and increasing the motivation for buying through the authorised channel. “We will sign up SelectWD partners in Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria and Morocco during this quarter,” explained Bimal Kaul, sales manager MEA at Western Digital. “We have seen companies double their sales performance quarter-on-quarter when they sign up for this programme.” Those eligible to join SelectWD must be selling a significant number of drives although the actual amount varies on a country-by-country basis. According to Kaul, Western Digital currently has five SelectWD partners in Saudi Arabia, four in the UAE, two in Egypt and one each in Bahrain, Kenya and Tanzania. “We have witnessed a significant sales increase across all territories which has helped us increase our market through the SelectWD partner programme network,” concluded Hafeez Khawaja, senior director Middle East, Africa and South Asia at Western Digital.
