Hard disk drives and consumer storage manufacturer Maxtor is opening a Middle East office in Dubai to respond to the growing demand in the region for personal storage solutions. “Dubai is an established IT and trading hub in the Middle East and the regional base for leading international IT players. Hence, Dubai Internet City was the ideal location for our new regional office,” says Didier Trassaert, Maxtor’s vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “We look forward to being part of a world-class business community, where information technology companies operate in an environment which encourages innovation and growth.” The company, a leading maker of hard disk drives for consumer, industrial and entertainment applications believes personal storage will be the next big thing in the world of IT. “People are increasingly concerned about the safety and privacy of their personal data and will turn to personal storage solutions to enjoy their truly personal benefits,” says Trassaert. Demand for affordable and reliable personal storage solutions is “definitely on the rise”, the company claims, with positive forecasts for “home networking” leading the way for the foreseeable future. As home computer use matures to multimedia and music applications rather than just limited to standard word processing use, Maxtor argue that home users’ needs for more storage space has increased in parallel, to satisfy their storage and sharing requirements of data-rich files such as music, movies, home videos and photos. The global home networking market is expected to be worth $6billion this year and by next year analysts are projecting that over 100 million homes worldwide will be using networked digital appliances.
