LG Electronics has been demonstrating iris recognition technology on its stand at Gitex this week, with a system that features a fully-Arabised user interface. The company has been demonstrating its IrisAccess 3000 system, which is already being used by the UAE government, to potential customers in the corporate and government space. LG claims the chances of a false identification are around one in 1.2 million, and the system is even accurate enough to know when it is being "spoofed": it can recognize prosthetic devices or pictures held against the camera. Once a subject’s information has been added to the system, which can be done in less than a minute, then authentification takes less than two seconds, according to Mohammed Murad, director of sales and business development for the LG Electronics iris technology division, which is part of LG Electronics USA. "LG Electronics is committed in the region to provide the best quality support, which is why we have made the user interface available in the local language," he claims.
