Zayed University launched its innovative IT forum for chief information officers and CEOs during Day Two of Gitex. The long-awaited event will see META Group’s WW VP, Luis Leamus, head a conference where Dubai’s prominent corporate community will share their views on value of IT in business. A first in Dubai, the event aims to group some of the region’s most dynamic executives to share management best practices and meet their peers. The speaker, Leamus, has more than 20 years of experience in the global IT industry in business development, marketing, financial analysis and strategic planning. Flown in especially from the UK, Leamus is a leading authority on IT implications of mergers and acquisitions, global governance models, and integration strategies. “The IT Forum will play an important role in promoting information sharing in a knowledge-based economy, where the proper planning and deployment of IT is essential not only for businesses to compete, but also to survive,” says Dr. Hanif Al Qassimi, vice president of Zayed University. “The university and its Institute for Technological Innovation believe that proper collaboration between academia and the business community creates a dynamic environment that enables sharing of best management practices. This will benefit the region’s growth in this area,” he adds. The IT Forum’s founding members, including AME Info, Dubai e-Government, the World Trade Centre and Zayed University, believe that aligning the Forum with an event as high-profile as GITEX will promote its exposure while providing access to its thought leadership for GITEX attendees from across the GCC. The event will act as taster for full IT Forum membership. There is no fee for the morning session at GITEX, but delegates must be in senior management or CIO level positions and register online. Seats will be available on a first-come first-served basis. “Our goal is to help business and IT executives recognise the impact of enabling information technologies not only in their own organisation, but in the society at large. In the knowledge economy, IT touches all aspects of an organisation - it is woven through the organisational fabric,” says Dr. Abdullah Abonamah, director of the Institute for Technological Innovation, Zayed University. The IT Forum welcomes interest in its seminars from all qualified members and senior management professionals across the GCC. Memberships are offered at the corporate gold, silver or associate levels. Members will receive benefits over and above seminar involvement, including a listing in the membership directory. The Institute for Technological Innovation (ITI) is a Zayed University-owned and operated non-profit business centre that is designed to educate business leaders and aspiring professionals on new and emerging technologies. Its mission is to develop and offer training and research programmes to support society’s ability to deal with the flux of data from IT and to help business leaders understand technological innovation and manage its impact.
