US-based broadband wireless equipment supplier Redline Communications is making its third appearance at Gitex following the success of previous years, and it seems business is booming. On Day One of the exhibition, Redline announced that Dubai-based partner Vision Valley, a leading integrator for broadband wireless solutions, had closed two new deals for applications in the financial services sector. These new contracts link ten branches of two national banks in North Africa over broadband wireless to their respective headquarters. "Vision Valley is one of our success stories," admits K Dino Bakakis, sales director, Middle East, Redline Communications. "Wireless is quick to install and implement, and with the amount of activity in the region, the demand is there. You should be able to get broadband connectivity to the home and office very economically in the future [with this]," Bakakis adds. Redline Communications specialises in offering external wireless broadband connectivity solutions to over 60 countries worldwide. Within the Middle East, Oman and Qatar are markets earmarked for development by Redline. "We want to expand our channels. There are still areas we don't cover well, like Oman and Qatar, and we would like to get more people to understand what they can do with this technology. "IP has evolved, yet it is still new to the region; internet penetration in the UAE is very high, but in the rest of the Gulf it is still low," Bakakis comments. One of the products under the spotlight at the Redline stand is the AN-100, the world's first 802.16 compliant product. The AN-100 is a scalable carrier-class multi-services wireless broadband solution for backhaul, subscriber access and private network applications.
